Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken released its December 2021 line of doughnuts, including S’mores, Red Velvet and a Jelly Doughnut. Plus, it started offering a Holiday Cookie and a special holiday version of its mini holiday-themed doughnuts.
Food & Wine magazine revealed its 2021 list of Best New Chefs in America, naming two chefs from the Washington, DC area: Angel Barreto, of Anju in Dupont Circle, and Paola Velez, of Bakers Against Racism. Up-and-coming chefs from Ann Arbor, Mich., Austin, Los Angeles, Portland, Ore., New York City, New Orleans, and San Francisco join the 33rd class of Best New Chefs in America:
Chef Matt Baker, the owner and founder of Gravitas, has opened a second location of upscale cafe Baker’s Daughter in Chinatown in Washington, DC. The bakery-cafe concept is from the same team behind the Michelin-recognized Gravitas in the Ivy City neighborhood.
Best Buns is getting bigger (and better), according to Great American Restaurant (GAR) Group, adding new outlets across its system. Existing locations will be retrofitted with counter service to offer a variety of baked goods, including pastries and sweets, as well as savory breakfast sandwiches. GAR brands, including Artie’s, Silverado, Coastal Flats Gaithersburg, Jackson’s, Mike’s American, Ozzie’s, and, Sweetwater Tavern Sterling, Centreville, and Merrifield, will have the new counter service
Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken released new menu items for spring including The Asteroid Fried Chicken Sandwich. It features spicy fried chicken breast with bib lettuce, sliced pickles, jalapeño coleslaw, and comes drizzled with a choice of Comeback sauce or ranch dressing. Astro Doughnuts nestles all these ingredients inside a Brioche bun or doughnut bun. Customers can choose their heat level, also: Out of this World Hot, which is made with ghost pepper, Medium, prepared with habanero, and Mildish, made with cayenne
With Halloween just around the corner, Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken is rolling out its October flavors. Astro Doughnuts’ treats include Chocolate Blackout Cake, Pumpkin Spice, Oreo Cheesecake and Candy Apple. All spooky flavors are currently available through October 31 (naturally).
Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken has released its new flavors for August. These will be available at the Falls Church store and in the Downtown Washington, D.C. location. The medley calls out the flavors of summer, as well as pays tribute to National S’mores Day. Astro Doughnuts will feature Chocolate S’mores, Cherry Pie, Blueberry Cotton Candy, and Lemonade Poppy Seed.
Best Buns and Patsy’s American are two new food destinations emerging in Tysons, Va. The Northern Virginia district of Tysons, which has seen a tremendous amount of retail, residential and commercial development as of late, is set to welcome Patsy’s American restaurant in a three-restaurant complex operated by Great American Restaurants (GAR). Best Buns Bakery & Cafe opened May 24 at the location, which is conveniently located close to Tysons Corner Shopping Center, the Tysons Corner Silver line metro station and Equinox fitness center. Patsy’s opens Friday, May 31 at 4 p.m.
