The Salt Line in Navy Yard, Washington, D.C., is hosting a mollusk festival, the third annual Oyster Wars, Sunday, October 13. The restaurant is expected to gather top restaurateurs, oyster farmers and chefs from around the Atlantic and Gulf Coast regions. “The chefs, restaurants, farmers, and brewers we are bringing to the table for this year’s Oyster Wars are among the most respected in our business, and their commitment to raising and using only the freshest, locally-sourced seafood is what distinguishes them among the best,” said Kyle Bailey, executive chef and partner.

Chef Kevin Tien is leaving Himitsu for a new passion, Emilie’s. His much-anticipated, new, Washington, D.C. restaurant is now slated for a September opening. The 100-seat Capitol Hill eatery’s menu features seasonally-inspired family-style dinners, as well as small plates that are rolled out on carts, Dim-Sum style. Diners will be drawn to the historic Capitol Hill location, now the site of brand new, luxury residences.

Chefs go all out to ring in the Year of the Pig

Restaurants around the Washington, D.C. region are ringing in the Chinese New Year in style. The Source by Wolfgang Puck will usher in the lunar new year with a feast on Tuesday, February 5. The upstairs at The Source will be transformed and feature a bar pouring Rhône wines, live chef action stations with different presentations of duck, and a whole pig roast from Joe Neuman, Sloppy Mama’s BBQ pitmaster. At Chiko, three different events will pay tribute to the Chinse New Year’s passage. Week-long festivities at Chiko include guest-chef-inspired meals by Chef Tim Ma of Kyirisan, Chef Javier Fernandez of Kuya Ja, and Chef Kevin Tien and Carlie Steiner from Himitsu. And at the Line DC Hotel’s Spoken English restaurant, there will be a five-course Chinese New Year tasting menu.

The tweet today confirmed that the new Chiko restaurant will open November 14 at 4 p.m. in Encinitas, a beach-centric town 25 miles north of San Diego on the eve of a new Chiko restaurant opening in Dupont Circle. Chiko is also a Best New Restaurant of the Year RAMMYS-award winner.
