District Winery fetes fifth anniversary with dinner, special activations

District Winery is celebrating its fifth anniversary, including cheese board and wine pairing classes, 2017 vintage tastings, rosé-infused birthday cupcakes, and a flower installation from local flower shop She Loves Me.

The Navy Yard winery is also expected to announce a new culinary team who will soon unveil brand new menus. In the meantime, they will showcase their talents in the celebration next week with a special four-course menu. DC’s first working winery will debut its new look and updated branding and logos in the coming weeks, according to a representative.

Esteemed flower shop, She Loves Me, will build a custom flower installation, in full display in the restaurant for several days. “The flower selection will be inspired by the colors of wine and fabricated into the shape of a five,” per the winery.

Here is the rundown on the celebratory events as described by the team at District Winery:

  • September 12, 6 p.m.: “Better Together” Wine and Cheese Pairing Class. “This immersive class will taste through five pairings of cheese & wine, where participants will learn about cold vs. room temperature cheese, practice creating beautiful cheese boards and taste unusual combinations that bring out the best flavor profile.” Navigate here for tickets.
  • September 12 to 18: “5 Year Anniversary Celebratory Menu.’ A four-course celebratory menu will be available throughout the restaurant the week of September 12, featuring dishes like Shaved Summer Squash Salad with toasted hazelnuts, Fresno chilies and lemon vinaigrette and Coq au Vin made with District Winery red wine, bacon, mushrooms and pearl onions (full menu can be found here). The $60 menu can be enjoyed with an optional $30 wine pairing, featuring vintages from District Winery’s 2017 vintage.
  • September 15 to 18: “Wine Cellar Tours Featuring 2017 Vintages available daily. This special tour and tasting will feature vintages from District Winery’s first year as a working winery. The team is especially excited to offer their 2017 Pinot Noir, the very first wine crafted at District Winery and never-before released to the public, along with an exclusive skin contact Petit Manseng, where only nine bottles remain. As a special bonus, the team has recently begun their 2022 harvest season, so guests may have a chance to see some behind the scenes wine harvest activities. Tickets are $45 per person.
  • September 14: Strawberry Rosé Cupcakes. “District Winery has partnered with local baker and celebration cake company Fluffy Thoughts Cakes on a custom anniversary cupcake that will be available to guests at the bar or in the restaurant on September 14. The strawberry-rose cupcake is made with cream cheese frosting, District Winery rosé infused strawberries, and a rosé shot on top. This wine-infused treat will be a gift, with purchase, to the first 250 guests at District Winery on Wednesday, September 14.”
