Thrasher’s Rum Royale finalists to compete in June

Thrasher’s Rum Royale on the rooftop of Tiki TNT, a Polynesian-style waterfront watering hole, is fast approaching. For two decades, Todd Thrasher has been ingrained in the cocktail movement of Washington, DC. Supporting local bartenders, his search for the most creative cocktail talents has led to the upcoming Thrasher’s Rum Royale competition slated for Monday, June 6.

The competition comes this year with new branding from celebrity musician and artist, David Foral of the Dirty Heads The 11 finalists selected have found their place in this final stage, judged by the competition’s guidelines. These finalists have demonstrated aptitude in

  • evaluating the name of the drink,
  • combination of ingredients,
  • flavor profile,
  • and originality.

The June competition stresses the individuals’ exceptional talent. In addition, the competing individuals must be in “good standing within the community and uphold a workspace that is dedicated to being safe and inclusive.”

What’s at stake

The finale of the Rum Royale competition will be held on the rooftop of Tiki TNT at Potomac Distilling Company on the District Wharf. The bar will collect the nominal, minimum $5 to reserve attendance, and will donate all proceeds to World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization.

The judges are ready to select the winner based on the same guidelines used to determine the finalists. The Grand Prize Winner will receive $3,000, the Second Place Winner will be awarded $2,000, and the Third Place Winner will win $1,000.

According to Tiki TNT, “Patrons will also sip and savor the competing cocktails, naming a People’s Choice Winner to be awarded a $1,000 prize.”
