Chef Mike Cordero and the Taco Rock Team opened their third Taco Rock in the DMV region in Falls Church, Va. There is a total of 2,815 square feet at this newly-introduced 1116 West Broad Street location.
The Taco Rock (Team Cordero) executive team consists of chef Mike Cordero, sons Nick Cordero and Anthony Cordero, and Chef Stefano Marzano of MightyMeals.
An outsized outdoor patio that seats 100 guests is a welcome feature of the new restaurant and features heat lamps to cozy up the ambiance. The Falls Church Taco Rock also boasts large garage door front windows that access the open-air space for alfresco dining.
Taco Rock offers a diverse tequila bar, offering specialty tequila cocktails and imported Mexican beers. Blue Rock Tortillas, an original recipe featuring blue corn tortillas, come in many varieties. For dessert, guests often gravitate toward the crispy stuffed churros, with several choices of cream fillings They can also order prepared-to-order gourmet ice cream tacos.

Yvette Irene, a designer from New York City, has transformed the previous space at Birch & Broad, adding several elements that convey the timeless rock vibe of chef Mike Cordero’s concept.
“While maintaining a street taco theme, the new restaurant presents a rustic contemporary palette featuring a corrugated wood paneled bar face, a stainless-steel circular patterned bar top, a mixture of color pitted tiles, burnt orange and gray leather banquettes, rail lighting and industrial pendants throughout,” according to a statement from the chain.
In the restrooms, a skull wallpaper for Day of the Dead-themed social media postings are front and center. Guests will find a full-length abstract mural of a farmer shucking blue corn cobs in the horizon in the back hallway. The mural subtly connects to Taco Rock’s Blue Rock Tortillas and fully stretches the length of the corridor. Exclusive to the Birch and Broad location, an old-school television screen plays classic videos and marries the retro stereo speaker wall art across the room. Irene plans to expand this new design feature to additional locations in the future.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Taco Rock shop without the iconic giant guitar jutting out from the ceiling and running the length of the restaurant.
The Falls Church opening comes on the heels of an Alexandria store debuting last January at Pinecrest Plaza shopping center.
More Taco Rock openings will follow, as the Cordero Team plans new stores to open in late 2022 and next year.
