Santa Rosa Taqueria to reopen in new Capitol Hill spot

New, airy restaurant will offer expanded menu, adult beverage lineup

Santa Rosa Taqueria in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of DC will reopen at a new location at 301 Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast. The Sunnyside Restaurant Group relocated the Mexican restaurant just a few blocks away from its previous spot. Micheline and Catherine Mendelsohn of the ownership family will bring their design expertise and vision to the new airy eatery.

Sporting a new look, the restaurant will also feature a contemporary menu when it reopens in the late winter. Chef Brian Lacayo and Catherin Mendelsohn will curate additional specialty items. The Santa Rosa 2.0 restaurant will have a larger selection of tacos, beers, margaritas, and happy hour bites and samplers. Well-known preparations in Barbacoa and Carne Asada will be evident, along with the less-traditional Korean BBQ Taco.

In addition, guests will enjoy shareables, like nachos and taco samplers, and enjoy more drink options. Ten unique margarita varieties will be joined by a wider selection of specialty beers.

“The last two years have been some of the most challenging for us and our industry and we’re just excited to open our doors again,” said Deputy CEO Micheline Mendelsohn. “Our goal is to be a welcome gathering spot where our Capitol Hill neighbors and visitors alike can enjoy delicious food and drinks,” she continued. “We want our guests to safely come together again after a long, tumultuous two years and create new memories over comforting food, fresh ingredients, and strong margaritas.”

The Santa Rosa 2.0 restaurant will benefit from 60 seats in the dining room and 60 outdoor patio sets. A grand mural celebrating Day of the Dead will feature prominently on the wall leading up to the second floor. The work by local artist, Rodrigo Pradel, and the art decorations on the storefront reflect his take on classical Mexican artistry.

The restaurant will open daily at 11:30 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. for both dine-in service and delivery & carryout options.
