Noosh, combining Persian, Mediterranean cuisines, opens in Georgetown

Chef Tarek Diab presents traditional, ‘comforting’ foods with authenticity at new restaurant

Noosh, a restaurant that will combine Persian and Mediterranean cuisines under one roof, is readying its opening in late November. The debut of the Georgetown eatery, at 1721 Wisconsin Avenue Northwest, will showcase the talents of chef Tarek Diab, of Persian and Egyptian descent.

An advance tasting event at the restaurant gave journalists and bloggers a chance to try some of the dishes on the menu ahead of the restaurant’s opening.

The appetizer course included Kashk O.B. which was definitely a hit, combining pureed roasted eggplant with fried onion, and dried yogurt, topped with mint. The Shirazi Salad offered finely chopped tomato, cucumber, and parsley, creatively layered and topped with mint lemon juice.


There was also a Fesenjoon, prepared with slow-cooked beef in pomegranate walnut sauce for the tasting. A version of this dish, with chicken, is featured on the menu.

For dessert, the Rollet is a good choice for guests looking for something light, and not overpowering or overly sweet. It combines moist cake, filled with fluffy vanilla whipped cream and topped with pistachios.

“This is our dream, to be able to bring Persian flavors to the area without compromising the Mediterranean flavors that people in the community love so much,” said Atoussa Ardalan, managing partner. “Noosh is not a fusion, we want to respect and celebrate both cuisines by serving dishes that will comfort anyone who tries them. This inspired us to name the restaurant Noosh, which in Persian means ‘may it nourish your soul’, the Persian equivalent of bon appétit.”

The Shirazi Salad was perfect for an Instagram moment.

Specialty Persian items on the Noosh menu include stews, kebabs and Persian ice cream; meanwhile, the Mediterranean menu presents dishes like chicken tagine, falafel, lamb, and curry.

Noosh is adjacent to 280 Eatery, a fast-casual restaurant opened in September.

Partners Ardalan and Diab will open the restaurant for lunch and dinner on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
