Much-anticipated fast casual opening this fall, says publicist
Taco Rock by Chef Mike Cordero, which is operated as a family affair with sons Nick and Anthony, is slated to open this fall in Rosslyn. The taco and tequila hangout will operate all day, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Rosslyn district of Arlington, Va. has seen an increased amount of developer, retail and restaurant interest in the past few years. One of the modern landmarks in Rosslyn is Central Place, with its Residences in a high-rise facing north and CEB Tower to the south. These two new buildings opened in 2017.
The continued expansion of residential capacity in Rosslyn is good news for restaurants, which rely on customer traffic during multiple dayparts (meal times). Taco Rock will benefit as a result of growth in the area, but will also compete against a diverse array of eateries. Social Restaurant Group will open a food hall between the Central Place buildings. And restaurants the likes of District Taco, Mele Bistro and Nando’s Peri Peri already operate in the neighborhood. Happy Endings, Open Road and South Block Juice are additional eateries that will open within close proximity.
To its credit, Taco Rock will have an eclectic collection of tacos, tequila spirits and Mexican beers to make it a neighborhood spot. Cordero, who is president of MacNac Hospitality, is no stranger to creating a popular hangout. Barley Mac, a neighborhood gem specializing in premium whiskey, spirits and Italian-American cuisine is a popular eatery and watering hole on Wilson Boulevard. Cordero, together with partners Scott Parker and Jonathan Rennich, strategized well to make this the restaurant and bar that it is.
Another advantage is the fast-casual service style that has been announced for Taco Rock. Counter service and bar service will dominate here. Expect speedy order taking, tasty Mexican-style food, but a lack of servers and waiters. Chef Stefano Marzano, of Mighty Meals, will bring to life some hand-sized tacos that burst with flavor. Taco Rock should open in October, according to its publicist.
The look and vibe of Taco Rock in Rosslyn is crafted by designer Yvette Irene, who will feature a giant guitar “jutting out of the ceiling” inside the 2,467-square-foot restaurant and bar space. Irene is also helping create the feel of Bronson, a German beer hall MacNac Hospitality also. Taco Rock is a reimagined space on Wilson Boulevard as the Cordero eatery replaces Spinfire Pizza, the previous tenant.
