Hilton, Marriott, Sodexo selected as top companies of diversity: DiversityInc

Rankings point to local, best-in-class employers

Three companies with U.S. headquarters in the Washington, D.C. area, and operating within the foodservice and hospitality sectors, were recognized by DiversityInc Magazine for being champions of diversity. Hilton and Marriott were named an overall 2019 Top 50 Company for Diversity. Hilton, based in McLean, Va., made the list for the fifth year in a row, being named #4 on the list this year. Based in Bethesda, Md., Marriott was named #2 on the 2019 list and claimed the highest ranking of a hospitality company in ten years, according to a company announcement.

With its U.S. headquarters in Gaithersburg, Md., Sodexo was named to the DiversityInc Hall of Fame and was ranked #1 and #2 on the magazine’s Top 9 Companies for Talent Acquisition for Women of Color and Top 15 Companies for Executive Women lists, respectively.

Sodexo, with its global base outside of Paris, was also listed as one of the Top Companies for LGBT Employees. Marriott, which is moving to a new Downtown Bethesda headquarters in 2022, appeared high on some of the DiversityInc top specialty lists. It ranked #2 in Diverse Leadership, #5 on Diversity Councils, #5 on Executive Women, #6 with regard to Philanthropy, #10 on Supplier Diversity, #11 on Talent Acquisition, and was included in the unranked LGBT efforts category.

“Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is at the heart of our pledge to extend this important legacy, and to drive our business forward,” said David Rodriguez, Marriott International EVP & global chief Human Resources officer in Marriott’s announcement. “It is how we will ensure that Marriott remains the place where everyone belongs.”

Also ranking prominently in additional DiversityInc Specialty Lists, Sodexo ranked in these categories: #6 on the Top 13 Companies for Talent Acquisition, #9 on the Top 12 Companies for Sponsorship, #9 on the Top 14 Companies for Mentoring, and #8 on the Top 14 Companies for Employee Resource Groups.
