Blowouts, extravaganzas, women-inspired, sugary treats headline D.C. Mardi Gras
There’s an abundance of Mardi Gras 2019 events in and around Washington, D.C. Here are a few that are sure to be memorable. Brookland’s Finest will feature a Mardi Gras three-course dinner with Republic Restoratives. Brookland’s Finest owner, Shannan Troncosa, is creating a women-inspired event as she collaborates with other women-owned businesses in a distiller dinner series. The Brookland’s Finest Mardi Gras evening celebrates women’s history month and puts the spotlight on Republic Restoratives and Moorenko’s.
The special, Brookland’s Finest New Orleans-inspired menu has some NOLA classics, including Crispy Frog Legs, étouffée and beignets, During the third course, beignets and Moorenko’s Burnt Burnt Caramel Bourbon Praline Ice Cream are paired with Civic Vodka Sweet Baby (made with Crème Yvette, vodka and simple syrup). This Mardi Gras dinner on March 5 includes pairings and is priced at $35 per person.
Mardi Gras Extravaganza DC
Tickets are going quickly for the Mardi Gras Extravaganza DC at The Showroom in Washington, D.C. Well-known rockstar chefs will be helping celebrate Mardi Gras to benefit DC Central Kitchen. It’s a N’awlins type of night to be had. Celebrity chefs, including Spike Mendelsohn, along with Gina Chersevani, who hail from NOLA and are the co-chairs of the event, help bring the evening together in grand fashion, along with Bruce Pike of Pike Productions. The Mardi Gras Extravaganza DC features food from 20 different chefs.
Mardi Gras revelers in attendance have the opportunity to meet Ryan Gannon of Cure in New Orleans, winner of the 2018 James Beard Award for Outstanding Bar Program. They’ll also party with beverages from 12 top mixologists in the area, including Sarah Rosner of Bourbon Steak and Frankie Jones of Occidental Grill & Seafood. Watch them compete as these acclaimed bartenders in D.C. battle it out for the title of “Best Hurricane” in the cocktail competition.

Bayou Bakery Mardi Gras Blowout
Bayou Bakery is throwing a Mardi Gras Blowout bash on March 5, with special Mardi Gras-inspired cocktails étouffée, beignets and assorted treats. David Guas will be hosting a special NOLA-style event. Guas is a NOLA native and celebrity chef who has featured Creole and Cajun favorites at the Arlington neighborhood bakery for eight years.
Astro Doughnuts King Cake Doughnut
The popular King Cake Doughnut, which is available Tuesday, March 5 only, returns to Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken. The vanilla-glazed yeast doughnut is decorated with green, purple and yellow-gold sanding sugar, and then topped with a white fleur de lis sugar topping. Customers traditionally order these in volume and on a pre-order basis as supply of this annual tradition is quite limited.
