Fall events highlight commitment to artisanal food, drink, support of community
Via Umbria, an Italian cafe, market and special events kitchen in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., will be hosting an event in honor of the Hope Connections for Cancer Support organization, which supports those suffering with cancer, and their loved ones, with free resources and education. The special cheese and wine pairing event scheduled for November 27, and priced at $25, will treat guests to a three-cheese tasting, a glass of prosecco, in addition to tasting notes, and a 10-percent discount on wine and cheese purchased in-store.
December 5, Via Umbria, will host a its December Cheese of the Month Class, focusing on superb Stilton cheeses. “As always, we’ll unveil a bonus cheese selected by our cheesemonger to tantalize your taste buds,” says Via Umbria on its website.
“You’ll taste and learn how to make dishes featuring each cheese and will take home recipe cards so you can recreate the experience at home.” This December Stilton cheese class is also priced at $25.
On November 27, Via Umbria will host a Somm Sitdown, which is a weekly event featuring Italian wines. Guests will interact with its sommelier, Will Moriarity, for an exploration of fine wines. The Somm Sitdown at Via Umbria includes a tasting of four to five wines and expert instruction into winemaking and on wine pairings for $20.
